1 Day in the Life of a Padel Coach

Being a padel coach is more than just a job; it’s a lifestyle. From early mornings to late evenings, the daily routine of a padel coach is packed with action, teaching, and the joy of helping players improve their skills. At Sevilla Padel Experience, our coaches dedicate their time and expertise to bring out the best in players from all walks of life. Here’s a glimpse into what a typical day looks like for one of our coaches.

Starting the Day

The day begins early, around 8:00 AM. After getting ready, it’s straight to the club to prepare for the first round of lessons. Lessons usually start at 9:00 AM and continue until around noon. These morning sessions are often with international players who come to Sevilla to combine their love for travel with their passion for padel.

The mornings aren’t just about teaching, though. Occasionally, there’s time for our coaches to train themselves as players. Staying sharp and maintaining personal skills is an essential part of being an effective coach.

Afternoon Recharge

After the morning lessons, it’s time to head home for a well-deserved lunch and some rest. This midday break is crucial, providing the energy needed to tackle the second half of the day.

Evening Action

At 5:00 PM, it’s back to the club for more lessons, which continue until around 10:00 PM. The evenings are typically reserved for Spanish players, creating a dynamic mix of cultural and playing styles throughout the day. Coaches spend about 7 to 8 hours teaching daily, adapting their methods to meet the needs of each player.

Lesson Structure

Every lesson follows a structured approach to maximize learning:

1. Warm-Up (10 minutes): Players get moving, preparing their bodies and minds for the session ahead.

2. Technical Focus (20 minutes): The coach focuses on a specific skill or hit, such as a volley, ensuring players understand and practice the proper technique.

3. Tactical Training (20 minutes): This part of the session involves a game designed to teach the tactics related to the skill being practiced.

4. Match Play (5-10 minutes): The lesson concludes with a mini-match, where players can apply what they’ve learned in a real-game scenario.

What Makes It Special?

When asked what they enjoy most about their work, our coaches often highlight the relationships they build with their players. Spending 1-2 hours a week with someone creates a unique bond, turning players into friends. But the most rewarding part is seeing players improve and apply the advice they’ve been given.

Motivating players can sometimes be challenging, especially when they struggle or lose interest. Coaches adapt their approach to match each player’s goals, whether they’re looking to improve competitively or just enjoy the game as a break from daily life.

Memorable Moments

Every coach has milestones that stick with them. For one of our coaches, these include giving their first-ever lesson at 16 years old, working full-time as a coach in the Netherlands, and training professional players who travel the world competing. Each of these moments represents growth, achievement, and the passion that fuels their career.

Challenges and Balance

Balancing a full-time coaching career with other responsibilities is no easy feat. With work stretching from morning to late evening, there’s little time left for family, friends, or hobbies. Rest and downtime are crucial to avoid burnout and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

The Biggest Compliments

The ultimate reward for any coach is seeing their players succeed. For amateur players, this could mean winning tournaments they once thought were out of reach. Knowing they played a part in that success is a compliment that stays with a coach for a lifetime.

Final Thoughts

The life of a padel coach is demanding but incredibly fulfilling. From the early mornings to the late nights, every moment spent on the court is a step toward helping players achieve their goals and grow their love for the sport. At Sevilla Padel Experience, our coaches bring passion, expertise, and dedication to every lesson, making each day both challenging and rewarding.

So, the next time you step onto the court, remember the hard work and heart your coach pours into helping you become the best player you can be. That’s the magic of padel coaching.
